School Ministry in Mid Western Region

Grace Katwesige

REGIONAL COORDINATOR - Mid Western region

The Midwestern region of Uganda is located in the western part of the country and comprises several districts such as Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale, Buliisa, and others. It is known for its diverse landscapes, including vast savannahs, rolling hills, and the majestic Lake Albert. The region is home to a significant number of communities with different cultural backgrounds, including the Banyoro, Batooro, Banyabindi, and others.

Within the Midwestern region, Scripture Union Uganda has established a branch that is actively involved in carrying out its mission and programs. The branch focuses on engaging with young people and promoting the teachings of the Bible through various activities and initiatives.

One of the key aspects of Scripture Union Uganda’s work in the Midwestern region is the organization of Bible clubs in schools. These clubs provide a platform for students to come together, study the Bible, and learn more about the Christian faith. Through interactive discussions, Bible studies, and mentorship, the Bible clubs aim to nurture the spiritual growth of young people and equip them with biblical principles that can guide their lives.

Additionally, the Midwestern branch of Scripture Union Uganda organizes camps, conferences, and retreats for young people. These events provide an opportunity for participants to come together, worship, learn, and build strong relationships with one another. The camps and conferences often feature activities such as Bible study sessions, worship services, sports, drama, and community service projects. Such gatherings create a conducive environment for spiritual growth, personal development, and the formation of lasting friendships.

Moreover, the region actively collaborates with local churches and community organizations to promote Christian values and principles. Through partnerships, they support churches in organizing outreach programs, evangelistic crusades, and discipleship initiatives. By working closely with churches and communities, Scripture Union Uganda aims to have a broader impact in transforming lives and communities with the love and message of Christ.

The Midwestern branch of Scripture Union Uganda organizes a range of activities to engage young people and promote spiritual growth. Here are some activities commonly conducted by the branch:

  1. School Clubs: The branch establishes school clubs in schools within the Midwestern region. These clubs provide a platform for students to gather regularly and study the Bible. Through interactive discussions, Bible studies, and sharing of personal experiences, young people deepen their understanding of the Scriptures and develop a personal relationship with God.

  2. Camps and Conferences: The branch organizes camps and conferences for young people from different schools and communities. These events are usually held during school holidays and provide an immersive and transformative experience. Camps often include activities such as team-building exercises, outdoor games, worship sessions, drama presentations, and focused Bible teaching. Conferences may feature guest speakers, workshops, and seminars on relevant topics such as relationships, leadership, and character development.

  3. Retreats and Spiritual Disciplines: Retreats are organized to provide young people with a quiet and reflective environment away from their usual routines. These retreats may focus on specific spiritual disciplines such as prayer, meditation, and solitude. Participants have the opportunity to disconnect from distractions, seek God’s presence, and grow deeper in their faith.

  4. Community Service Projects: The branch encourages young people to actively serve their communities through various initiatives. This may involve partnering with local churches or organizations to organize outreach programs, such as feeding the needy, visiting orphanages, or participating in environmental conservation efforts. Engaging in acts of service helps young people develop compassion, empathy, and a sense of social responsibility rooted in their faith.

  5. Evangelistic Outreaches: The branch actively participates in evangelistic campaigns and outreach events. These initiatives may involve door-to-door evangelism, open-air crusades, or partnership with churches for community-wide evangelistic activities. Young people are encouraged to share their faith, invite others to Christ, and engage in conversations about the gospel.

Prayer in my SU club made me strong

I kept on praying despite having challenges with school fees which were making me perform poorly. I found favor with the school leaders who allowed me to stay in school and do exams before making a payment.

An opportunity to get involved

When I saw the relationship of the leaders towards the children, and their discipleship and leadership during the programs, I begun to trust SU. While I cannot attend all the SU programs because of my work, I will continue to contribute financially to the work. That is why I decided to increase my contribution.

Gift of Salvation

I am so blessed to be apart of the Scripture Union family. I have seen my life change from glory to glory. All thanks to the family

I met my purpose

Volunteering with scripture union helped me find my purpose in life
