John Nathan Owora

REGIONAL COORDINATOR - northern region

Northern Region is one of the regional branches of Scripture Union Uganda, which is a Christian, International, interdenominational, and Para-Church Organization which
works with Churches to meet the following aims;

1. To make God’s good news known to Children, young people and families.

2. To encourage people of all ages to meet God daily through Bible reading and prayer so that they may come to a personal faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, grow in Christian maturity and be committed members of the Church and servants of the world in need.

In Northern Uganda, we work in the 17 districts and 2 cities of Lira, Gulu, Apac, Oyam, Kole, Kwania, Dokolo, Alebtong, Otuke, Amolatar, Kitgum, Agago, Pader, Amuru, Nwoya, Omoro, and Lamwo.

The Northern Region of Scripture Union Uganda carries out a range of activities aimed at engaging and nurturing young people in the region. Some of the activities they conduct include:

  1. Bible Study Groups: NUSU organizes and facilitates regular Bible study groups where young people can come together to study and discuss the teachings of the Bible. These groups provide opportunities for deepening their understanding of Scripture and fostering spiritual growth.

  2. Camps and Conferences: NUSU arranges residential camps and conferences that bring young people together for extended periods of learning, fellowship, and worship. These events often feature guest speakers, workshops, interactive sessions, team-building activities, and recreational pursuits, creating a holistic experience for participants.

  3. Retreats and Spiritual Formation Programs: NUSU offers retreats and spiritual formation programs designed to provide a conducive environment for reflection, prayer, and personal growth. These programs encourage young people to deepen their relationship with God and develop a strong spiritual foundation.

  4. Leadership Training and Mentorship: NUSU places a strong emphasis on developing young leaders. They provide leadership training programs, mentorship opportunities, and discipleship initiatives to equip young people with the necessary skills, character formation, and biblical knowledge to serve as leaders in their communities.

  5. Community Outreach and Service Projects: NUSU actively engages in community outreach and service projects to address social issues and make a positive impact on society. They collaborate with churches, schools, and other organizations to organize activities such as youth empowerment programs, advocacy campaigns, community service initiatives, and social awareness campaigns.

  6. School Programs: NUSU works closely with schools in the region to offer programs that promote moral values, character development, and spiritual growth among students. They conduct assemblies, seminars, and workshops in schools to provide guidance and support to young people in their educational journey.

  7. Evangelistic Initiatives: NUSU seeks to share the message of the gospel and reach out to young people who may not have had exposure to Christianity. They organize evangelistic events, outreach programs, and evangelism training to effectively communicate the love and teachings of Jesus Christ.

Testimonies

Prayer in my SU club made me strong

I kept on praying despite having challenges with school fees which were making me perform poorly. I found favor with the school leaders who allowed me to stay in school and do exams before making a payment.

An opportunity to get involved

When I saw the relationship of the leaders towards the children, and their discipleship and leadership during the programs, I begun to trust SU. While I cannot attend all the SU programs because of my work, I will continue to contribute financially to the work. That is why I decided to increase my contribution.

Gift of Salvation

I am so blessed to be apart of the Scripture Union family. I have seen my life change from glory to glory. All thanks to the family

I met my purpose

Volunteering with scripture union helped me find my purpose in life
